Jared Spinelli is a member of the firm’s Family Law department, a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, and chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. Jared concentrates his practice on all aspects of complex domestic relations law, including divorce, child custody and child support, alimony, paternity, asset valuation and division, and modification and contempt actions. He also has considerable experience drafting and negotiating prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. In addition to his work at the trial court level, Jared is experienced in drafting and filing appellate briefs and has argued before the Massachusetts Appeals Court on issues having to do with disproportionate asset division, deviation from the Alimony Reform Act’s durational limits, automatic, percentage-based self-modifying alimony orders, business valuation methodology, the treatment of expert witness testimony, and orders to vacate the marital home. His practice also includes representing clients in Chapter 209A abuse prevention and Chapter 258E harassment prevention proceedings in both the Probate and Family Court and the District Court. Jared has been jointly engaged by parties in parent coaching and mediation capacities. He also is an active volunteer as a conciliator within the Judge Jeffrey Abber “We CAN Settle Initiative” Program providing free conciliation services to court-referred parties in need of alternative dispute resolution. Finally, Jared has been appointed sua sponte by the Probate and Family Court as a Guardian ad Litem / Next Friend to represent the interests of active military service men and women while they are deployed abroad.
On many occasions, Jared has been an invited speaker at various professional conferences both for lawyers and for judges. Jared has been an invited speaker on several occasions at the Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA)’s Annual Family Law Conference on various topics, including evidentiary issues in “extreme” family law cases, cryptocurrencies and cutting-edge digital devices in divorce, bench/bar pandemic lessons, and financial family law issues post-pandemic. In 2023, Jared was invited to speak to the sitting justices of the Boston Municipal Court (“BMC”) at its annual educational conference on the topic of artificial intelligence in trial practice. Jared has also been an invited speaker at MCLE New England on the topics of prenuptial agreement negotiation and discovery in family law cases (as well as co-authoring the accompanying seminar publication). Jared is a sitting member of the MBA’s Family Law Section Council and has spoken on several occasions at the MBA on CLE topics such as drug testing in the Family Court and special needs planning during a divorce. Jared previously served for many years on the Boston Bar Association’s Family Law Steering Committee and continues to speak at the BBA on topics such as representing military veterans in family law matters, drafting and negotiating divorce agreements, the art of pre-trial practice, and drug testing/sobriety monitoring in child custody cases. Finally, from 2016 to 2018, Jared also served on the Executive Committee for the Greater Boston Family Law Inn of Court, a collective of Boston area family law attorneys and judges whose goal is to increase the level of civility within the family law bar and to mentor each other to become better practitioners.
Outside of the office, Jared is involved in many Boston-based organizations and volunteers his time taking on pro bono cases through Veterans Legal Services. He also presently sits on the Town of Medfield Zoning Board of Appeals.
